nice job... i like the idea and feeling behind the image... it especially like the special effects on the orb in her hand... the stock model is great and you masked her well... some of the things i wouldve done differently are; 1) the snow flakes, there seems to be a blizzard in the background and only a few over the main subject... try to even the amount a bit... 2) the background, i understand why you put that background but it's very hard to even tell what it is unless u look at the original image... tho the color tones are good but i think it may be a bit too blurry and too covered by snow flakes to appreciate it... 3) the foreground, i think it would've been great to find another image of snow with high contrasts to place in the foreground to improve the focal range of the image... the way dof (depth of field) works is the main subject is in focus and the background slowly gets blurrier the further away you get... one photoshop trick for that is to copy the specific layer and blur it, either with gaussian or camera blur, then ad a gradient mask the the layer so it gradually gets blurry...
Hope this helps a bit... keep the creativity flowing
Ok, wow, thank you for the awesome critique. I will try and apply the things you talked about(luckily I didn't burn my .psd bridges this time). One thing though, I don't really understand the foreground/Gradient Mask thing(not used G-mask before). Thank you for the tips and you time(I'm surprised you didn't comment on the shitty face lighting) .
HEY! I've uploaded an updated version of "winter magic" in which I tried to incorporate some of the things you mentioned earlier(plus I changed up the lighting a bit.) I would love for you to look at it again . Thanks very much and
