In the End by sylor41 In the End by sylor41
EDIT: I got 2nd place ind the contest, WOOO!

At least we are together...

Loosely inspired by the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow'

Made for the End of Days Contest [link] at :iconphotomanipulatorsx3:

I decided to do a more traditional manipulation for once, mostly because of a comment someone said to me, and for some blending practice.

The background of the piece took by far the most time(and it can barely be seen :'( ). It took like 80% of the time, and only half of it is showing, lol.

Enjoy! :D

This is very well done! I love how the tones are all the same, and the water is pouring through, concluding their demise. T.T I love it!

Your piece is amazing as well! And waaay more popular than mine hehe. I really like the style, the atmosphere it creates. The colors blend very nicely together, I just have a little comment, and I don't really know if it is correct or not, maybe if you saved the psd file you could check it out, compare and see. It seems to me that the light around the figures is too big and/or too harsh. I think that if light hits directly from behind, it would make a thiner "halo" around the figures, almost like a line and slightly blurred (maybe between 0.5 and 1 pix gaussian blur). On the other hand, if the light is coming from above and behind, the sise of the halo is right, but it would fade a little more (again, maybe you could play around with your gaussian blur)
Again, I really don't know if that is right, because the piece looks amazing as is and it blends very very very well (buch better than any of mine, that's for sure) but maybe you could try it out and see if you like it =)

Thanks for the lovely comments ^^'. I really do appreciate it. Mine only more "popular" because I've done more self promotion and group posting. Yours is still awesome, lol.

I'll definitely check out the blurring thing you suggested, because I agree that the lighting's a tad harsh.

Thanks again! I've definitely learned things.

I really love the highlights around everything, like the buildings and the figures. :D The whole piece is very dramatic, and the muted colour scheme really suits it.

This is so very dramatic picture.
The background is very "end of the world" is and I love it.
I like the way the water is gushing in the room.

Despite my heavy eyes black lines I will do my best to make a fair comment on this piece.

It's nice to see more of you of your traditional photo manipulation again. I remember that was also what struck me back when I took my first peek into your gallery. I couldn't possibly tell you how much I like the rest of the background seeing as I ironically can't see it. The amount of effort was not put to waist though since the practice might pay off at one point. Nonetheless it's an amazingly dramatic manipulation and one I believe was worth the time and effort.

Now I just wish I had as much time as you to do some art. v.v *Sigh* Have to press on!

I generally donīt like manips, but I think this piece is really nice. I can feel the tension between the two characters and in the scene in the background. The white edges of the buildings are a lovely detail.

I like it overall. The color, composition and even the width of the image.
However, the black gap in the top of the window looks weird, requires you to look very hard to make sense of it (contrast depends on monitor).

Wow this is beautiful, it's kinda sad but like you said - at least they are together to the very end. That bit touches my heart. I can see a story about the couple and then it ending with this picture.

This is pretty great a stock, though I think the crack in the window could have been done better. Could use more cracks to show that the end for them both is going to happen in a few seconds. You know for that extra dramatic effect. But that is just my personal opinion.

The background is beautiful, there's just something about storms that make me amazed by the power of mother nature. Though in reality if I was there I would probably be running around screaming.

Thanks a lot, I really do appreciate that. I'm glad it drew an emotional response from you. As an "artist", I'm always happy to hear that.

I do agree that the crack in the window could have been done better. I may go back and change it....may...lol.

Haha, again, thank you. The background was where the meat of the manipulation took place, I appreciate that it was well recieved :D.
(Oh and I'd probably be running and screaming like you too, only faster and more hysterically ;))
